Fade In.

SCENE 1 INT. TEMPLE – HILL OF TATUM – DAY

Rubella stands with Soulep at the rear of the inner temple chamber.

SOULEP

Sira and Malic approach alone as instructed. I’ll ensure both their entourages are not aware of the other.

RUBELLA

Caution is advised on how much we must tell the humans.

SOULEP

Agreed.

Malic appears and descends the STONE steps into the inner chamber.  He moves towards the STONE ALTAR.  He looks around. A sound is heard at the entrance and Malic retreats behind one of the stone pillars to observe.  Sira descends the steps cautiously and moves towards the altar.  Malic withdraws his sword and steps from behind the pillar.

MALIC

Do not make a move or I swear I will strike you where you stand!

SIRA

If it’s not the bastard king and all alone! How brave.

MALIC

Is this is a trap you set for me? Are you somehow in league with the gods?

SIRA

The Gods?

MALIC

Why are you here? And tell me the truth.

(Pushes his sword towards her)

SIRA

Do not threaten me Malic.  I did not come here to fight.  I am as confused to your presence as you are of mine.

MALIC

Do not play games with me! If I had known who you were in the woods, I would have slit your throat and ended the Galor reign forever.

SIRA

If I remember correctly, I was the one holding the sword to your throat so no, I don’t believe you would have.

MALIC

(Shouts)

Why are you here?

SIRA

Maybe I am here for the very same reason as you are but now that I am here face to face with you and alone again, I am curious about one thing.  Why did you never lead your armies against me or attempt to retake my hold over the last nine months?

MALIC

Under advisement, I was cautioned not to as the palace army was split and our ranks very much depleted.

SIRA

Barton Malor cautioned on the side of safety, but by doing so has resulted in both our sides becoming stronger.

MALIC

Why did you not attempt to retake the capital city?

SIRA

(Looks away)

I was otherwise engaged and as you said ranks had to be rebuilt.

(Returns her attention to Malic)

Why are you here?

MALIC

I was told to come here by a goddess who first appeared to me almost nine months ago?

SIRA

What is her name?

MALIC

Rubella.

SIRA

Interesting.  Around the same time following my father’s death when I took the throne, my throne I might add, a goddess by the name of Soulep started to appear to me.

Rubella and Soulep appear before Sira and Malic.

RUBELLA

Put away your sword my child.  There is no place for it here.

Malic stares at Sira cautiously and obeys Rubella.

RUBELLA

Listen to what I have to say.  I am Rubella, High Ducess of Wisdom and this is my sister, Soulep, High Ducess of War. We are the last of 4 great elders or gods that once ruled a race known as the Korninti. There is a threat on its way to these shores, a threat that your peoples have never encountered before.

SIRA

Is this the threat that you have always spoken to me about?

SOULEP

Yes. You have both been chosen as the leaders among your people. Malic, for his wisdom and pure heart.  Sira, for strategy and prowess in battle.

RUBELLA

With our guidance, we can help you both to prepare your peoples for what is to come but to do this, you both must stand united.

SIRA

With him! Never!

SOULEP

Caution is advised Sira.  It is not your own life that you must fear for.

Sira pauses and listens, understanding the words of the goddess.

RUBELLA

To prove how serious this threat is, we are going to reveal ourselves to the Kingdom of Malaar and to its people. You both have been chosen as our messengers. You must lead your people, help them to prepare and put their faith in us.

SOULEP

This temple is going to become a place of faith once more, a beacon of light in the dark that is to come.

Malic looks at Sira.

SCENE 2 EXT. ROYAL PALACE – DAY

Marget sits in the PALACE GARDENS.  She stands on sighting Barton Malor enter.  He moves towards her.  He kisses her on the right cheek.

BARTON

What is so urgent you requested to see me?

MARGET

I am not sure there is anything more urgent that requires your attention to what I am going to tell you.

Barton beckons Marget to sit and they sit.

BARTON

What new information can you have to tell me?  I was at your briefing when you returned from Sira and you have stated she has no demands only that she is recognised as the legitimate ruler and queen of the northern kingdom.

MARGET

I did not reveal all while my son was present.

BARTON

Did Sira say something else to you?

MARGET

(Looking into Barton’s eyes)

You already know!

BARTON

Do not speak in riddles, Marget.

MARGET

Barton Malor, a mighty man on the battlefield you may be, but a liar you are not! You know of Sira and Malic!

BARTON

(Inhales deeply)

Malic did not know who Sira was when they met.  It was in one of the clashes with the palace army.  Malic got injured and retreated to a small hut in the forest.  Sira surprised him but did not reveal herself.  She patched his wound and they parted.

Marget stands and moves towards a flowering shrub.

MARGET

They did more than that!  They have a daughter, which Sira has named Eve.

Barton stands and moves towards Marget, holding her by her arms.

BARTON

Are you sure of this?

MARGET

That is why she asked me to visit her so she could show me the child.

BARTON

It could be a trick. Some part of a game plan, a strategic move she is playing.

MARGET

I do not believe so but whatever it is, I do not see this as a problem but a possible solution to the current political situation.  The child is key to uniting this kingdom once more like King Siris once had.

Barton releases Marget and places his hands on his hips. Throwing back his head he exhales deeply.

BARTON

I do not believe that is Sira’s intention.

Barton nods before exiting the palace gardens leaving Marget standing by the blooming flowers.

SCENE 3 INT. TEMPLE, HILL OF TATUM – DAY

Sira paces in front of the altar.  Malic stands silently to one side.

SIRA

If you are gods, can you not stop this invading force?

RUBELLA

We will fight on behalf of the people.  We will help, guide and assist.  It is up to both of you to unite this Kingdom as one.  Overcome your insignificant squabbles.  The oncoming force will invade this land and march towards the capital city of Enegue.  Both Soulep and I will do our best to protect as many as we can.

MALIC

What is the first thing we must do?

RUBELLA

Listen always to your thoughts. I will guide you.  Just ask for me and I will come.  People will listen to you.  Inform them that you have been in contact with the gods of old.  We have come with a warning.  Gather your people to this hill and re-open the temples in the capital city.  I will pass on the messages of what you will tell them.

SOULEP

Sira, Malic cannot do this alone.  Put down your differences.

Rubella and Soulep move towards Malic and Sira.

RUBELLA

When you wake, you will find yourself at your respective encampments.  Following that, take yourself to your homes and wait for our messages.

Rubella and Soulep place their hands on either side of Malic and Sira’s neck.  All four disappear from view.

SCENE 4 INT. KARK ROYAL PALACE – NIGHT

Sira enters the nursery of her daughter.  She nods to the lady in waiting to leave.  Sira waits until she is gone before moving towards the CRIB.  Her daughter sleeps inside. Sira sits down and places her hand gently on the crib staring at her daughter lovingly.

SIRA

I am confused my sweet Eve.  I suddenly do not understand the workings of this world that you have been born into.  I do not understand the threat that is approaching our shores. But I promise I will do what I can to protect you.

Sira reaches in and kisses Eve on the forehead.  Sira moves to the window and pulls back the screens.  The MOON shines bright.

SCENE 5 INT. ROYAL PALACE – NIGHT

Malic turns in the bed.  He sits up.  Standing he moves towards the window and stares outside at the MOON shining brightly.  A moment of inspiration lights his face.  Grabbing his robe he puts it on and exits the bedchamber.

Descending the STONE STEPS Malic reaches a curtain.  He pauses before pulling it back. Cauper, the palace historian stands on seeing Malic.

CAUPER

My king.  Please.  You are welcome to the Palace Library.

Malic enters and looks around the lowly lit room.

MALIC

Do you not sleep?

CAUPER

At my age, I do not require much sleep. Please sit.  How might I be of assistance my king?

MALIC

(Sits and clears his throat)

This is going to sound strange and I am sure it is not something you get asked about much, but what do you know about the gods of old?

CAUPER

(Shakes his head slowly)

You are correct.  It is not a question I get asked often.  What I can tell you is what we have recorded in our old manuscripts.  As you know, the people in the Kingdom stopped believing in the deities many centuries ago, long before your father united the different kingdoms.

MALIC

Who were the gods? And why did people stop believing in them?

CAUPER

I can only answer what they have been recorded to be and as for why did the people lose their faith, well, perhaps that was gradual.  Tyranny, lost harvests, death.  Eventually, people stop believing.  The ancient temple on the Hill of Tatum was the centre point for all religion and beliefs.  The hill fell silent and people stopped going there.

MALIC

If that was the main temple, who was it dedicated to?

CAUPER

A sovereign goddess of the kingdom.  Her name escapes me now but I can search for it.

MALIC

Another time maybe.

(Stands and steps to one side)

Cauper, as we are a kingdom that no longer has priests or preachers, I need your advice on a spiritual matter.

(Pauses)

I have ... been visited by a goddess in the temple on the Hill of Tatum.

Cauper stands.  His eyes open wide.

CAUPER

The ancient texts do state that if the gods were ever to appear again, it would be at a time of grave danger for the kingdom. But of course, that could have been written in to justify their disappearance. It can be interpreted in any way.

MALIC

It may have truth in it.  I have received a message that I need to pass onto the people and I am not sure how to go about doing it.

Cauper keeps his eyes locked onto the king and remains silent.

SCENE 6 INT. CAVERN – NIGHT

Rubella and Soulep now dressed in white, stand by a fire.

RUBELLA

They are approaching.  I still cannot isolate the Armonte Elders?

SOULEP

They have masked themselves for now amongst the combined force of their magic.

RUBELLA

Ensure Sira is ready as the first line of defence. The capital city is to be protected at all costs.  I need to seek out the Armonte elders.

SOULEP

I will meet you in the capital city. It will be the final stand.

The green pendant hanging around Rubella’s neck glows and she disappears from sight.  Soulep waves her hand over the fire quenching it.  Blue light radiates from Soulep’s pendant and she disappears.

Fade Out.
