EXT. SCENE 1 REBEL CAMPSITE – MORNING

Barton Malor’s army is camped.  Barton exits the main tent and walks towards Malic who is standing looking into the distance.

BARTON

You have not taken your eyes off that hill since we arrived.

MALIC

What is that place?  I feel drawn to it.

BARTON

That is the Hill of Tatum.  A very ancient place where our early ancestors would offer sacrifices to the gods.  The temple you see on top was built in the gods’ honour but over the years, beliefs in the deities diminished and the temple fell empty.

MALIC

Barton, I am feeling compelled to go to it! I cannot explain it.

Barton stares at Malic momentarily and nods.

BARTON

I already have scouts posted on the south of the hill just in case Sira had an ambush ready.  This would be the place where she could have confronted us as we skirted the edge of Acale Forests. But there are no sightings of an ambush.  She does not have the men for it. I see no harm in checking out the temple.

Malic smiles and mounts his horse, galloping off in the direction of the HILL OF TATUM. Barton stares after him.

Malic rides his horse up the incline to the top of the Hill of Tatum and to the large STONE TEMPLE, now slowly being retaken by NATURE. Malic moves towards the great stone ARCHED DOORWAY and steps through.

INT. SCENE 2 HILL OF TATUM TEMPLE – MORNING

Descending a stone staircase, Malic enters the inner chamber of the temple.  He moves towards the LARGE STONE ALTAR, placing his hands on it.  Sunlight filters in through the large and partially broken dome above the chamber. A hooded figure appears on the other side of the altar.  Malic jumps backward, grabbing his sword.

RUBELLA

There will be no need for your weapon my child. Do you remember me?

MALIC

Yes! You are the woman from my dreams. The Goddess!

RUBELLA

You can call me that. I made it known to you on my last visit that I am here as your protector and your guide.  Your time has come Malic when you must accept your destiny and responsibility.  A secret has been kept from you and the mortals that surround you at present will not tell you the truth, and even for them, there are events they are not knowledgeable of.

MALIC

I do not understand!

RUBELLA

Malic, I am about to tell you who you truly are and where you came from.  Following the revelation, you are to return to your comrades and inform Barton Malor that you know the truth and start marching your armies directly to the royal palace in the capital city. Do you understand?

MALIC

Yes, but what secret has been kept from me?

Rubella stares onto Malic and smiles gently.

RUBELLA

I bestow onto you the gift of wisdom, the strength of heart, decisiveness and to be courageous.

Rubella moves to Malic and places her hands on his shoulder.  She smiles.

INT. SCENE 3 PALACE COUNCIL CHAMBER – MID MORNING

Sira sits at the council chamber with 5 army generals including Lorenz. Sira is listening and remains quiet.

GENERAL 1

We could hold out five days at best.  That might give us ample time until our reinforcements come from the southeast and west.

LORENZ

You are forgetting that Nathan the Magnificent could turn traitor and attack from within.

GENERAL 2

We have enough food to last two months of a siege. We are still stockpiling and collecting so we can extend it to another two months if necessary.

LORENZ

We also have the full palace armouries at our disposal.

SIRA

I am sitting with five of the best palace generals and yet none of you are coming up with solutions only what-if scenarios. There are many unknown variables that could go against us.  We could hold out for a week or two until our legions arrive.  However we cannot trust Nathan or the loyalty, many of the palace soldiers have towards him.  We have had too little time to get things right and Barton knew this.  He knew when to strike when I am at my weakest and not having fully grasped the situation I had found myself in.

Sira stands.

SIRA

We can leave and let the heir have the capital city and the palace.

The Generals negatively murmur in response.

SIRA

We take the weapons and men that are loyal and march westwards and up through Wesser and then onto the city of Kark in northern Metag.  It is a heavily fortified city.  From there we draw a line west into Wesser and east into Oisten.  We will have the northern part of Metag and Ostund land to the north.  That will become the new Kingdom. The heir can have his capital city but he will not have his kingdom.

LORENZ

My queen are you sure of this plan? How can you walk away without attempting to save the capital and the palace?

SIRA

There are little alternatives.  We deplete time, resources and food trying to defend a city and palace that possibly cannot be saved.  This could all be over in a matter of hours if there is a rebellion from within.  If the people know that the true Siris heir marches onto the capital, they could rebel.  Kark will become the new capital and a palace can easily be built. Take what we can and they will find nothing here but an empty shell.  We shall divide the Kingdom of Malaar in two.  Only the most trustworthy men must know of this.  Once ready, we leave immediately.  Dismissed.

Sira watches as the generals exit the council chamber.  She faces her council chair and sights Soulep sitting on it.

SOULEP

It is not your plan to leave, is it?

SIRA

I am not going without a fight.  I will not show weakness in front of the enemy.

SOULEP

I would not expect it but your enemy today, maybe your friend tomorrow.

SIRA

Unfortunately, I do not have your insight into what will come but I am putting my fate into your hands.

Soulep smiles and stands.  She moves towards Sira.

SOULEP

I bestow upon you the spirit of a warrior, strong in battle, decisive, courageous and gentle.

Soulep places her hands on Sira’s shoulders. She smiles.

EXT. SCENE 4 REBEL ARMY CAMP – MID MORNING

Barton sights Malic approach at speed to the campsite.  He moves forward to greet him.  Malic brings his horse to a stop and dismounts.  Malic holds Barton’s gaze.

BARTON

What has happened?  There is something different about you.  I can see it in your eyes.

MALIC

My eyes have been opened.  Do not worry I hold no fault on you for not telling me.  You were leaving it to my father........ Marcus.

BARTON

How do you know? Did you have a vision? Have the gods of old spoken to you?

MALIC

That is not important now.  What is important is that we depart for the capital at this moment.  Alert the men, we take leave instantly.

BARTON

Where did this instruction come from?

MALIC

We all ride out together as one, or I shall ride out alone.

Barton nods and shouts instructions to the men.  Malic cast his eyes towards the STONE TEMPLE rising majestically out of the Hill of Tatum.

INT. SCENE 5 PALACE PRISION – MID MORNING

Sira sits next to Marget in her prison cell.

MARGET

You have been sitting here for the past while and yet you have not spoken.

SIRA

I am not sure what to say only that in sitting here I feel safe.  I feel that you are the only person I can trust at this time.

MARGET

I thought I would have been the last considering what I had done to you and your father.  The betrayal that deserves my beheading!

SIRA

I was angry but I understand why you did it.  At this moment, I do not feel I can trust anyone else in this whole palace.  Lorenz is by my side, but I do not believe he will ever make a great head of the palace army. He lacks vision and strategy but he is loyal, that I grant him.

Marget looks at Sira.

MARGET

What will you do?

SIRA

What can I do?

MARGET

Your men are loyal to you.  They will follow your orders and fight.

SIRA

There is one who is not loyal and he is a worry to me.

MARGET

Nathan the Magnificent.  He was your father’s right-hand man.

SIRA

He still has men loyal to him and he could turn and fight from within.  I would not be surprised if he has already struck a deal with Barton Malor in return for something.

MARGET

It is possible.  Nathan has done that numerous times.  Even during your father’s reign.  He is easily bought and not just with money.  He has a lust for the younger male flesh so a young man offered here and there to fulfil his desires, would even be enough to deter an attack on a village. We all have destinies to play out. Perhaps mine was to bear the heir to the Kingdom of Malaar.

Sira looks at Marget.

SIRA

Do you believe the gods are in control of our destinies?  Do they choose us to fulfil certain duties?

MARGET

I am sure of it. Who knows what your destiny is?  It may not be as Queen of the Kingdom but maybe something even greater!

Sira looks away in thought.

SIRA

What is his name?

MARGET

By birth his name is Johann but on the night he fled from this palace, Alana renamed him Malic.

SIRA

Malic.

Sira stands and moves towards the door.

SIRA

Barton’s men have been sighted coming from the north and east.  They will be upon us before long. I need to join my men and continue with my strategy. I do not know if I will see you again, but I believe you will be safer locked in here.  I do not believe any harm will come to you. You are the heir’s mother after all.

MARGET

Do not destroy this city or this wonderful palace.

SIRA

If Nathan acts from within, I might as well open the city gates and let Barton Malor walk right in.  It would not be his intention to destroy the city.

Sira opens the door.

SIRA

Goodbye aunt.

Sira exits.  Marget folds her hands in prayer.

EXT. SCENE 6 PALACE BATTLEMENTS – AFTERNOON

Sira stands next to Lorenz and surveys the ADVANCING ARMIES taking up positions outside the city walls.  ARCHERS shoot arrows from the outer city walls onto the oncoming advancing armies.

LORENZ

My queen, you should be gone with the rest of the generals.

SIRA

It was never my intention of abandoning the palace until the end. I will not think any less of you if you wish to take your leave. It is good that Barton does not know of the new underground routes my father had built.

LORENZ

My place is by your side as the general commander.

SIRA

If you are anything Lorenz, you are loyal.  That is why I chose you.

Turning to the ongoing fighting, Sira stares ahead.

SIRA

Where is Nathan the Magnificent? Was he not to be manning the inner city walls?

Placing her hands onto the stone battlements, Sira glances outwards.  The city population are still retreating inside the inner gates of the city.

SIRA

Something is not right.  Barton’s men are not advancing.  They are waiting.

A horn sounds from with the city and the outer city gates open.

LORENZ

That my queen is where Nathan is.

Lorenz points to a MAN standing guard overseeing the opening of the OUTER CITY GATES.

SIRA

If I have the pleasure of meeting him again, I will have his head.  It is time to retreat. Today is not our day for battle but our day will come.

LORENZ

My queen, the original underground network might be compromised if Nathan has been working with Barton.  They could already be in the palace.

Sira looks at Lorenz and descends the stairs quickly and runs towards the palace with Lorenz after her.

EXT. SCENE 7 PALACE PRISON – EVENING

Sira and Lorenz rush through the corridors of the palace.  Shouts are heard from within the great palace hall.  Sira stops and removes her sword.  She steps closer to the door.

LORENZ

My queen! We need to go!

Sira pushes in the doors and sights the intruders within the hall.  She strikes out at an attacker, driving her sword into him.  Sira turns and faces two more.  She counter blocks the moves of both of the attackers.  She pushes both of them backward.  Lorenz stares at her in surprise.  Sira rams her sword into one while kicking upwards into the face of the other.  Lorenz joins her.

LORENZ

My queen, we need to go! We cannot stop them.

Sira screams and lunged forward with her sword, driving it into the third soldier.  She stops on sighting Malic. A soldier moves towards Malic.

SOLDIER

Protect the heir.

Malic and Sira lock gazes.

SIRA

You!

EXT. SCENE 8 PALACE PRISON – EVENING

The door of the prison room is kicked in and Barton enters.  He stops on sighting Marget.  Marget moves slowly towards him with a tear in her eye.

BARTON

Twenty-three years ago we were to have walked on the road of marriage.

MARGET

Twenty-three years later you are still looking for my hand Barton Malor.  What an old fool you are.

Barton moves to her and places his hands on her shoulders gently.

BARTON

Does an old fool get a third chance?

MARGET

(Smiles with tears in her eyes)

You had me at the first time you asked me.  I just.....

BARTON

Don’t speak.

Barton hugs Marget.

BARTON

What you have done has been a great sacrifice for this kingdom.

MARGET

I don’t think I have forgiven Alana for telling you the truth.

BARTON

It was a royal command.  Alana knows of my love for you and she knew it was best that I know the truth and understand it.  What kept me going all these years was not only to fulfil the destiny of King Siris but it was the thought of seeing you again.

Marget dries her tears.

MARGET

What has happened?  Where is Sira? Where is......

Barton

Come.  Let us get out of here.

Barton places his arms around Marget and helps her out of the room.

INT. SCENE 9 ROCKY CAVERN – EVENING

Rubella stands by an OPEN FIRE.  Soulep appears.

SOULEP

Sister, you called.  I was overseeing the events of the battle.

RUBELLA

We have more pressing matters.  Do you feel it?

Soulep closes her eyes and reopens them.

SOULEP

The Armonte! They must have passed over from the Vellig Kingdom into the Hall of Worlds.

RUBELLA

The mortals of this world are not yet ready for the battle that will come our way.  Sira and Malic have much to learn.

SOULEP

Can you replicate what you did when you were held captive in the Soulamir realm?

RUBELLA

Hide the Kingdom of Malaar, shift its portal temporarily?  Yes! It will hide our presence from the Armonte until we continue with our mission. The only force that will stabilise this world once the Armonte breakthrough is the child that Sira carries, the son of Johann Siris.

Rubella reaches out for her sister’s HAND and clasps it in hers.

RUBELLA

Sister, we have work to do.

The goddesses disappear.

Fade Out.

End of Season/Chapter 1.

Season/Chapter 2 will return in April 2019.
