Fade In.

INT. SCENE 1 ROYAL PALACE QUEEN’S CHAMBER – EARLY MORNING

The lady in waiting enters the Queen’s chamber and moves towards the large bed in the centre of the room.  Sira sits on the side of the bed.

LADY IN WAITING

My queen, you have not touched your food and to be honest you do not look well.  Will I fetch the royal physician?

SIRA

There is no need.  I will be fine.  I must have eaten something that disagreed with me.

LADY IN WAITING

I will have your breakfast removed.

SIRA

Have my armour laid out.  From now on until further notice, I shall wear my armour each day.  Have word sent to Lorenz to have my weapons brought to me and I will meet with him within the hour at the entrance to the palace dungeons.

LADY IN WAITING

Yes, my queen.

The lady in waiting departs.  Sira places her hands on the bed and stands slowly. She places both her hands on her STOMACH, inhaling deeply and closes her eyes.  She exhales and reopens her eyes.

INT. SCENE 2 PALACE DUNGEONS – MORNING

Lorenz waits by the entrance and sights Sira enter, and move towards him.

LORENZ

Good morning my queen.

SIRA

We shall move beyond pleasantries for the moment.  What report do you have from your scouts as to the location of Barton Malor?

LORENZ

Late last night, two returned to report that Barton Malor has been sighted north of the Acale Forest.

SIRA

Soon they will be at the Hill of Tatum, then, it will be a direct approach to the capital city. At least we know of their location.  Keep track of their movements.

LORENZ

It has also been reported that his army is numerous in soldiers.

SIRA

What he has in men, he lacks in weapons however he is a skilled strategist.

Sira moves forward to the edge of the STONE STEPS descending into the dungeon.

SIRA

We are unable to ride out and meet him.  The Hill of Tatum would be the ideal place for an ambush, just as they round the Acale Forest, they would ride right into it.  We have no choice but to stand and protect the capital city with what we have.  Our legions in the south are still many days from here.  I fear they will not reach us before Barton’s men do.

LORENZ

My queen, I had no knowledge that your father had let it come to this.

SIRA

I do not blame my father.  I am sure he was acting and listening to his general, Nathan the Magnificent.  It is him, who is the blame for all of this.  He no longer deserves the title of the Magnificent. If Nathan had been doing his job, Barton Malor would not have been able to build an army.  It angers me, Lorenz.

LORENZ

Shall I have him arrested?

SIRA

Be careful how you thread. Many men are still loyal to him. I do not wish to incite a rebellion at this very time.

Sira turns her attention on Lorenz.

SIRA

I will deal with him.  For now, send him to me.  In the meantime, have you interrogated the prisoners?  What of Marcus Ward?  Has he spoken?

LORENZ

Nothing. He will only speak to you.

SIRA

Me! Take me to him.

Lorenz leads Sira downstairs and through a series of tunnels until they enter a small stone holding cell with a chair in the centre of the floor.

LORENZ

Have Marcus Ward brought in for the queen.

Marcus is escorted in and placed on the chair and chained.

SIRA

Do not waste my time.  What is it you wish to speak to me about?

MARCUS

I hear there is an army on its way from the north, being lead by Barton Malor.

SIRA

Do you want confirmation of its pending arrival or are you just stating a fact?  Speak and tell me what Barton wants?

MARCUS

He wants the kingdom returned to the rightful heir.

SIRA

I am the heir to the throne.  There is no one else.

MARCUS

(Smiles)

With Barton, rides the true heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Malaar.  My wife Alana saved the baby the night your mother murdered Queen Siris.  He has been in hiding for the past twenty two years and now he comes to fulfil his destiny and sit on the throne once more as his father did.  The true royal family of the kingdom.

Sira strikes Marcus across the face. She grabs his hair and pulls his head backward.

SIRA

What you speak of his heresy as no mention of King Siris’s son survives to this day.

MARCUS

Says the false queen whose own father kept the truth of what he did hidden and forbid anyone of ever mentioning the Siris name.  You have heard what I speak of.  I am sure your aunt has shown you many things. What else do you believe has been kept from you?

SIRA

If what you say is true, I will ensure to finish the job that my mother failed to do twenty-two years ago!

MARCUS

Wait!! There is more!

Sira lets go of Marcus and stands before him.

MARCUS

How I have waited for this moment, how we all have.  The heir’s mother was not Queen Siris. The queen falsified her pregnancy so the child could be carried by another woman.  No one was the wiser, not even the royal nobles that King Siris had to plead with continuously in order the keep a peaceful and unified kingdom. You and the heir are cousins.

SIRA

Impossible! That would mean that my aunt....

Marcus laughs.  Sira removes a knife from her boot and SLICES Marcus’s throat.  Sira stands and watches the life drain from Marcus’s body. Sira screams.

LORENZ

My queen.

SIRA

Do not speak to me!

Sira strides out of the holding cell.

INT. SCENE 3 PALACE PRISON ROOM – MORNING

Marget paces her small cell.  The door unlocks and Sira bursts in with a guard following her.

SIRA

Leave us!

The guard exits and closes the door. Sira steps to the centre of the room and stares at Marget. Her face softens and she becomes emotional with tears in her eyes.

SIRA

How could you do this to me? How could you hide the truth from me and from my father, your brother, for all these years? I am your niece, your blood! Your betrayal is beyond words.

MARGET

The truth has been told to you.  Sira, he is my flesh and blood. He is my son.

SIRA

It tears me inside.  All this time you and Barton Malor were planning this moment!

MARGET

I carried him within me and I have never stopped loving him. Sira, please can you not see why I want you to open your eyes to the Kingdom, for the people?  It is not about power or wealth.  It is about creating a great kingdom for all. You do not have to lose your position.

SIRA

(Shouts)

What! You would have me share my throne with the bastard son of a dead king who no longer means anything to the people of this land!

MARGET

That is where you are wrong! This is something your father could never understand!  The power of the ruling monarch comes from the power of the people.  No one across this land has loyalty to the Galor name.  Your father has made sure of that and now you continue that legacy. But the Siris name, that is different.  Once you speak of it, people will respond with hope and joy for what the future might be.

SIRA

It makes us a weak land and I will not speak on this matter any further with you. You have betrayed my family more than I can even comprehend.

MARGET

What will you do?  He rides here as we speak! Do not bring a battle onto the people of this city. I beg of you!

SIRA

Let me be very clear to you. I will not sit back and let that bastard take my throne and if he does manage to succeed in taking the capital and the royal palace, I will not let him have this Kingdom!

Sira strides out the room slamming the door.  Marget sits.

INT. SCENE 4 QUEEN’S CHAMBER – MORNING

Sira strides into her chamber and shuts the door.  She drops to her knees and screams. She falls forward onto the floor and cries.  She bangs the floor with her fists.  Sira crawls towards her bed.

SIRA

Come forth! I know you are here!

A FIGURE appears a short distance away and Sira looks up at Soulep.

SOULEP

Rise my child.

Sira stands.

SIRA

You told me that I would be destined to be a great leader among the people of this kingdom! As we speak the rightful heir to the throne rides this way.

SOULEP

You will become a great leader in this Kingdom but first, to be great and strong, you must be broken.  I have mentioned this to you before.  You will be broken Sira Galor and you will rise stronger than you have been before.  Trust in your destiny and prepare for what is coming.

Soulep disappears.  Sira straightens and inhales deeply and exhales.  A knock is heard on the door.

SIRA

Enter!

Lorenz enters and moves towards her.

SIRA

What news do you have for me now? Can I bear anymore for one day!

LORENZ

One of our scouts has just returned my queen.  A contingent of Barton Malar’s men has been sighted on the eastern side of the Acale forests.

SIRA

That’s impossible! He would not be able to go around the forests.  He would have had to go through them.  Not an easy task.

Sira steps forward in thought.

SIRA

So he will attack from the north and the east.  Prepare the city and our line of defences.

Lorenz nods and exits.  Sira moves towards the large STONE WINDOW.  She opens the WOODEN DOORS and steps onto the balcony.  She stares onto the SPRAWLING CAPITAL CITY before her eyes.

SIRA

Soulep, High Ducess of War.  I place my fate in your hands.  I am ready for what is about to come.

Sira steps closer to the edge and places her hands on the STONE before her.

Fade Out.
