Fade In.

INT. SCENE 1 ROYAL PALACE – EARLY MORNING

Lorenz crosses the inner lobby and enters the GRAND ARCHED doorways of the main palace building.  He strides the long corridor towards two LARGE WOODEN DOORS. He opens the doors and steps through to see Sira, dressed in her regal gowns standing by her council chair.  Lorenz enters, closing the doors after him.

LORENZ

My Queen, I must protest about taking this trip to Ostund land. What is the need for it?  There is no threat to you there, nor does it support any population worth mentioning.

SIRA

That we know of?  Lorenz, we know so little about the Northern Province.  Even Cauper, the most well versed historian in the kingdom who is an ageing man has no knowledge of it.  It is time that province is investigated and forms part of the Kingdom of Malaar officially and not just some blurred lines on a map with no one really sure where the northern reaches of the kingdom are.  We shall redefine the Kingdom’s borders.

LORENZ

But is it wise to go now when there might be a possible threat of a rebel attack?

SIRA

Did you not tell me yourself that no such threat has been discovered?  We did encounter the small band of outlaws led by Barton Malor, however, we have Marcus Ward, his second in command in our dungeons ready for hanging. I calculate that we shall have returned long before the hanging.

LORENZ

But we could send a group to explore, map and report back.

SIRA

Do not try and talk me out of this trip.  I intend to go and see the Riarc Mountain range for myself unless of course, the mighty head of my palace army is afraid of running into the Salic Sisters?

LORENZ

Witches do not scare me.

SIRA

We ride tomorrow at dawn.

Lorenz bows and exits the council chamber.  A cloaked figure looms into view on the opposite side of the council chamber.  Sira steps backward.

SIRA

Who are you?

High Ducess Soulep reveals herself.

INT. SCENE 2 PALACE LIVING QUARTERS – EARLY MORNING

Marget paces the room.  A knock is heard at the door and Marget rushes to it. Opening it, SAM (24) her private soldier enters.

SAM

My lady, what message do you have for me?

MARGET

I fear this is the last message I will send and I also am very regretful to say that I shall not see you again, however, should we meet again it will certainly be a joyous occasion.

Marget reaches inside her dress and reveals a sealed LETTER.  Marget hands it to Sam.

MARGET

Take it to Barton and then you will join ranks with him. The time has come.

Sam nods and exits the room.  Marget closes the door and moves towards the blazing fire. She casts her eyes onto the portrait of King Siris propped against the wall.

INT. SCENE 3 PALACE COUNCIL CHAMBER – MORNING

Soulep steps closer to the council chamber table.

SOULEP

I have come to tell you to abandon this notion of travelling to Ostund Land.  This is not relevant at this time.

SIRA

I am seeking to learn more about you and your sister and to understand where you live.

SOULEP

My sister and I would never reveal ourselves to the inhabitants of this planet unless it was absolutely necessary. We have chosen you as you will lead your people for what is to come.

SIRA

What is coming that you want to prepare me for?

SOULEP

All will be revealed in time but first, you must be ready.

SIRA

I do not fear the people of this Kingdom.

SOULEP

It is not the people of this Kingdom I am referring to.

Sira stops on hearing the words.

SIRA

I do not understand.  If it is not the people of this Kingdom, then who should I fear?

SOULEP

First things first.  Prepare yourself for a great battle, a battle that this city has never seen before.

SIRA

This is the royal palace in the capital of Enegue.  The capital has never fallen before in all of its long history.

SOULEP

I have given you a warning. I cannot tell you anymore.  Give this your undivided attention.  I will be watching on as always.

Soulep replaces her hood and vanishes into the darkness of the council chamber.

INT. SCENE 4 WESSER/METAG BORDER – AFTERNOON

Barton Malor waits for the approaching rider.  Malic stands by Barton’s side.

MALIC

Is it a message from the palace?

BARTON

Yes.  I have an old friend working inside keeping me abreast of what is going on.

The rider approaches and Sam alights.

SAM

A message from Lady Galor.

Barton takes the message and opens it.

MALIC

From the Queen!

BARTON

No. Her aunt. Marget Galor.

Barton scans the LETTER before placing his attention on Sam.

BARTON

Welcome soldier.  Fall in and join the ranks.

Sam nods in acknowledgment and retreats to the campsite within the trees.

MALIC

What is it?

BARTON

Marcus and the rest of the group will be publically hanged in the palace square. It is time we ride out and join the main legion of our army at the most northern tip of Metag and from there we ride towards the palace.  The palace army is currently dispersed so we should find it in a weakened state.

MALIC

I will prepare.

BARTON

I‘ll inform the men.  We ride out at dusk.

Malic moves forward to his duties.  Barton glances once more at the note before placing his eyes on Malic.

INT. SCENE 5 PALACE CHAMBER – AFTERNOON

Sira sits silently at the council chamber.  A map of the kingdom is spread out on the table before her. The door opens and Lorenz enters.

SIRA

Lorenz, I had wished to see you.

LORENZ

You have been in here nearly most of the day.  I have been informed that you have not eaten. Is there something the matter?

SIRA

I have been thinking.  Perhaps there are more pressing matters that should have my attention than taking a trip of exploration to the Ostund Land province. There is nothing there for me now.

LORENZ

I believe it to be a wise decision my queen but may I ask, what has changed your mind?

SIRA

That, I cannot answer.  Where are our legions presently?

LORENZ

They are in Oisten, Wesser and the southern reaches of Metag along by the coast. There is an additional legion based in Kark City, as it is the second biggest trading city to the capital.

SIRA

How many legions?

LORENZ

Eight legions.

Sira stands and paces to the other side of the table.  She faces Lorenz.

SIRA

I have been trained in warfare and battle strategies all my life.  I have trained many of the palace army soldiers but I fear that I have been made blind as have you Lorenz.

LORENZ

What do you speak of?

SIRA

I have not shown fear, why should I? The Kingdom is under the fear of the palace and my father’s reign.  But now I question had my father turned a blind eye, grown weak under his old age and the constant questioning by my aunt who suddenly on my father’s death, reveals a secret that has been so well kept hidden from me at my father’s request.  To mention the Siris Royal family would bring certain death.  My aunt now finds it suitable to break something my father fought so hard to keep from me.  To add to his Lorenz, there are names of people that once belonged to a very close circle to the former King Siris now suddenly appearing.

LORENZ

My Queen, I do not follow.

SIRA

My aunt revealed the secret to me for a reason.  Barton Malor is attempting to lead a rebellion, the former head of the palace army.  Marcus Ward, a former palace army general is in our dungeons – is it intentional?  I fear Lorenz there is a rebellion rising under our noses and we are not aware of it.  Not only is it outside but also inside within the palace.  I understand strategy and Barton Malor is an excellent strategist.

Sira stands and steps closer to Lorenz.

SIRA

Our legions are to be recalled immediately.

LORENZ

It will take days for our messengers to reach them and just as many for their return to the palace.

SIRA

Recall them now Lorenz.

LORENZ

Yes, my Queen.  There is a reason for my initial visit to you.  It concerns your aunt.

SIRA

Speak.

LORENZ

This morning she sent her private soldier out of the capital.  We followed him in the direction of the border to Wesser.

SIRA

I have never looked upon my aunt but an annoyance to my father.  I may have misjudged her.  Her latest move has a motive.  Leave her to me.  I shall speak with her. Start securing the city.  Prepare for what Barton Malor might bring against us.  You have your orders. Dismissed.

Lorenz nods and exits the council chamber. Sira returns to the map of the kingdom spread out on the council chamber.

EXT. SCENE 6 METAG BORDER – AFTERNOON

Malic and Barton rein in their horses.  They look out onto the valley before them and to the woods at the opposite in. SMOKE rises upwards from within the trees.

BARTON

Look ahead Malic.  Our forces wait for us within.  We now have strength in numbers.

MALIC

Sira’s army will not withstand our attack.

BARTON

This is why we must attack the capital city now and remove Sira.  Sira has no knowledge of what is happening yet within the kingdom.  She has a weakness.  She loved her father, as every daughter should but she believed in him and his power over the kingdom.  The fact is unknown to her, the old man Galor had become weak and incompetent in the latter years.  His hold over the kingdom had weakened years before his death and his palace general, Nathan the Magnificent became corrupt and easily bought. The provinces were not controlled.

MALIC

Sira will retaliate.

BARTON

If we don’t stop her now, she will grow strong and crush our rebel armies and this kingdom.  She is strong and a trained strategist and soldier.  Do not underestimate her.  Given the chance, she would bring us all to our knees. That is why we must break her now before she truly discovers the state of the kingdom her beloved father has left it in.

MALIC

Once she is defeated who will become the ruling monarch.

Barton smiles

BARTON

Don’t worry.  There is someone in line waiting.  Marget Galor has seen to that. Come on let’s ride on and join our forces and set out for the capital.

Barton and Malic spur on their horses and gallop towards the army camped within the forest at the border of Metag.

Fade Out.
