S1 Ep1

Characters

Sira Galor, Malic Ward, Barton Malor, Lorenz Calis, Marget Galor, with Soulep and Rubella

Fade In.

SCENE 1 EXT. ENEGUE CITY - EVENING.

Enegue, the capital city of Metag, appears in view.  Situated high above its fortified walls is the grand stone ROYAL PALACE. At its centre extending above the rest of the palace is a LARGE RED DOME.   Moving in towards the palace situated below the dome is an extensive bay window protruding outwards, protected by STONE PILLARS.

SCENE 2 INT. ROYAL PALACE - EVENING.

Standing by the window protected by its stone pillars is SIRA GALOR (22).  Her right hand is placed on one of the pillars.  She stares vacantly outwards onto the vast city below her.  A sound is heard from behind her. She turns and walks the length of the corridor reaching a double wooden door, guarded by two army soldiers on either side.  Pushing the door inwards Sira enters a bedchamber and strides towards the large bed in the centre of the room which is surrounded by three nurses. Sira looks on at her father KING SEBASTIAN GLAOR (68) lying on the bed.

SIRA

Leave!

The nurses bow to Sira, retreating from the room.  The soldiers close the door following them.

KING SEBASTIAN

Sira, my child

(Pauses for breath)

KING SEBASTIAN

Did I ever tell you, you look so like your mother.? She would be proud of you. You will make ..

(Pauses for breath)

KING SEBASTIAN k

A beautiful Queen.

Sira sits next to King Sebastian on the bed and gently rubs her hand over her father’s head, caressing his hair.

SIRA

Your kingdom will be safe. I will look after it. Do not fear father.

KING SEBASTIAN

I know you will. It is……it is…

SIRA

Please, father, do not talk.  Rest now.

KING SEBASTIAN

The Kingdom is what I give to you. I know it will make your mother and I proud

(Pauses for breath)

KING SEBASTIAN

to have our daughter as Queen.

King Sebastian coughs and breathes once more before closing his eyes.  Sira runs her hand over his head and leaning in, she places a kiss onto his forehead.

SIRA

Don’t worry father. I will protect our kingdom.

Rising, Sira moves towards the large window and steps out onto the balcony.  Sira looks out over the COUNTRYSIDE and onto the palace ground below.  She inhales the evening air.  Sira smiles.

INT. SCENE 3 UNKNOWN CAVERN – NIGHT

SOULEP (HIGH DUCESS OF WAR) is joined by her sister, RUBELLA (HIGH DUCESS OF WISDOM) by a glowing fire.

RUBELLA

The time has arrived sister. The mortal king is dead.  Take your leave of these mountains and watch over our new queen.  When the time is right, make contact with her and inform her of only what she needs to know.  We must prepare the people of the Kingdom for what is coming.

SOULEP

I shall call for you when I am ready.

Soulep places the hood of her cloak over her head and steps into the darkness disappearing from sight. Rubella holds her gaze on the flames before her.

INT. SCENE 4 PALACE COUNCIL CHAMBER – MORNING

Members of the Palace Council are seated around a large oval table in the council chamber.  They MURMUR among themselves.  The doors to the council room open and Sira enters, dressed in her regal robes and crown.  Silence follows and Sira takes the seat at the head of the council table. LORENZ CALIS (34), HEAD OF THE PALACE GUARD, a tall, strongly built soldier stands next to the council chair.

SIRA

It has been two days since my father’s death.  Lorenz, what are the plans that you have ready for me?

LORENZ

We have divided the troops into the divisions you requested.  They are armed and waiting for dispatch to the south, east and to the west of the Kingdom.

Sira maintains her focus straight ahead without making eye contact.

SIRA

The mission?

LORENZ

To raid the villages and to put the fear of your Majesty in the people to prevent any rebellions from occurring.

SIRA

Is there word of any such rebellion or war party bubbling anywhere since my father let things slip in the last number of years?

LORENZ

We have been keeping very close surveillance and there is nothing to report on such a rebellion. Should a rebel band wish to lead a war against the kingdom, they would not have any such weapons that would match ours.

SIRA

What about within my father’s army? How is Nathan the Magnificence taking to you now heading up the kingdoms army?

LORENZ

He has been very co-operative my Queen.

SIRA

Watch him.  You have good men. I have helped train many of them personally. Give the order to go, and I want results.

LORENZ

Yes, your Majesty.

With a wave of Sira’s finger, the members of the palace council leave except for one who remains sitting.  Once the door of the council chamber closes, MARGET GALOR (60) COUNCIL MEMBER stands.  Sira places her gaze on her.

MARGET

My dear niece, is this how you intend to bring change to the Kingdom? By instilling even more fear.

SIRA

You made my father weak towards the end with your talks of change.  The kingdom has grown weak.  Do you not see there are mercenary rebels only waiting for the opportunity to knock the Galor’s from power.

MARGET

You are paranoid. This is your chance to unite those factions that frighten you.  People should look to you in hope, not in fear. Do not be like your father.

SIRA

My dear aunt, I have no intention of being like my father.  I will make this kingdom great again.

MARGET

You don’t know your father.  You only know what he has told you.  Please listen to me and do not go down this path.  I can help you make this kingdom great, so great that the people will remember your name for centuries to come. Call back Lorenz.

SIRA

My orders are given and I do wish for anymore council.

Marget moves towards Sira and places a key on the table in front of her.

MARGET

Go to the palace library and look for the family crest over the fireplace.

Marget walks out of the council chamber.  Sira stares at the key before picking it up.

EXT. SCENE 5 DOORAS VILLAGE, WESSER PROVINCE – MORNING

GARTH (72), an old man sits alongside a water well near a small house and outhouses at the edge of a small village.  People are busily working nearby.  The old man spots a young boy DANIEL (8) and MALIC (22) coming towards him.

GARTH

Come here boy, and let me finish the story of Sebastian and how he has destroyed what was once the magnificent Kingdom of Malaar.

BOY

You said this was once a place of great peace

Malic stops and stands nearby smiling.

MALIC

Garth you have told that story to me many times.  I find it hard to believe even though my father says it was true that this was once a peaceful land.  King Sebastian Galor has ruled here all my life. I’ve known nothing but war and unrest.

GARTH

Exactly, but he was not always ruler of Malaar, and don’t give him the title of king.  There is no royal blood running through his veins. The seat of power belonged to the family of Siris. For generations, they had ruled this kingdom and it was King Eyre Siris who last ruled for that family.

BOY

What happened to him?

GARTH

Well, it began after a great celebration. King Eyre Siris had left the festivities to attend a meeting, which Sebastian Galor wanted.  King Siris ‘s wife Mayer had gone to check on her newborn son when it all happened.

BOY

What happened?

The boy lies on the ground in front of Garth and Malic.

GARTH

It was about 22 years ago.  King Siris was holding a huge banquet in the Palace at Metag.  The King was summoned by his second in command of the palace army, Sebastian Galor.  Sebastian was not like King Siris.  He was a ruthless and greedy man.  He did not care for the people.  He opposed King Siris and his peaceful ways. Sebastian wanted more taxes, more payment for his army officials and better weapons. He longed for war.  King Siris was having none of this from Sebastian and threatened to have him publicly hanged.  It had taken King Siris years to unite the provinces of Malaar under one rule. He was not about to have it all destroyed again.  So Sebastian had King Siris killed.  Sebastian’s wife Eve joined him and they had a group of soldiers ordered to take the palace and kill anyone who resisted.  Eve saw to King Siris wife Mayer and killed her.

BOY

What happened to the baby?

GARTH

The quick thinking by the lady in waiting grabbed the child and ran from the palace using the underground water network.

BOY

Did they find the baby?

GARTH

No, they never did find the baby, they searched the whole kingdom even to very far corners of it as far as the Riarc Mountains, where most people feared to go and yet they found nothing. They believed then that some god must have saved the child or it was hiding among the witches of the north.

MALIC

How did you ever get to know such great detail of the event, you have never even been next or near the province of Metag where the palace is?

MARCUS WARD (54) and ALANA WARD (52) approach.

GARTH

I know of someone who was there.

MARCUS

I think that is enough storytelling Garth. Go on now.

(Points to the young boy)

MARCUS

Help your mother with the food.  I have told you time and time again not to be telling the boys that story.

The young boy runs off with his Alana.

GARTH

It is no harm in him knowing.

The sounds of horsemen approach.  Two horsemen stop next to Marcus, Garth and Malic. BARTON MALAR (55) alights and steps towards Marcus.

MARCUS

What news do you bring?

BARTON

King Galor is dead and Sira has taken the throne.  She has already dispatched two groups, one to the west and the other to the east. One for the south will ride out later in the week.

MARCUS

The palace guard must be intercepted and Sira Galor stopped.

BARTON

Agreed.  We ride out in the morning. A good half days ride from here, is a clearing on the other side of the Cafen Ridge. There we will meet a contingent of our soldiers.

Barton pauses and glances at Malic before returning his attention to Marcus.

BARTON

Is he ready?

MARCUS

He is ready.

Barton nods and walks onwards towards the small house.  Marcus glances at Malic and smiles.

EXT. SCENE 6 METAG/WESSER BORDER (CAFTEN RIDGE) – EVENING

A group of horsemen fronted by Barton and Marcus ride towards a clearing in the woods overlooking a small village.  A camp lies concealed within the trees.  Barton and Marcus dismount and walk to a small clearing overlooking the village.

BARTON

This is where we will encounter Sira’s first attack.  They will come from the southeast.

MARCUS

I understand this means a lot to you?

BARTON

I should never have let it happen.  I had warned King Siris numerous times about Sebastian Galor’s want for greed and war.  He was an ambitious man.

MARCUS

We will end the Galor reign and return the throne to its rightful owner.

BARTON

There!

A cloud of dust rises above the bushes on the entrance to the village. The palace army appears in view, led by LORENZ.  The army enters the village, lashing out with swords on unexpected men and woman.  Torches are lit and village houses are set alight.

BARTON

This is what we are up against if we want to fight Sira.  The palace army has attacked, we must protect the innocence. Our mission is to protect and stop Sira.

Marcus and Barton mount their respective horses.  Barton spurs on his horse, raises his sword.

BARTON

(Shouts)

Protect the village!

Barton and Marcus lead the charge to the village.

INT. SCENE 7 ROYAL PALACE – EVENING

Sira enters the palace library and moves toward the fireplace on the opposite wall.  She stares at the Galor Family crest before looking at the fireplace before her. She studies the recesses.  Stepping into the hearth of the fireplace she scans the back wall noticing a small hole to the centre top.  Inserting the key a sound is heard from the wall and a stone door reveals itself.  Pushing the door inwards, Sira steps into a small room.  Portraits of a king and queen hang on the walls with more on the floor propped up against the walls.  Moving towards a dusty glass unit, Sira wipes away the dirt to reveal two crowns. Sira moves to the wall opposite and picks up a scroll lying on the floor.  She reads it.

SIRA

How is this possible?

MARGET

What you are reading is the true history of the royal family of the Kingdom of Malaar.

Sira turns to see Marget standing at the entrance.

SIRA

What is this?

MARGET

These portraits belong to the king and queen Siris.  What you are holding is their family tree dating back generations.

SIRA

My father never....

MARGET

Your father lied to you Sira.  Kept the truth hidden so you believed you were born into the rightful royal family, daughter of a great king in a line of kings.  Fear was instilled in the people so no one within in the confines of the palace ever mentioned the Siris family again, as to do so would have consequences.  Your father had the royal family killed and he took power.

Sira glances down at the scroll in her hands.

SIRA

They had a son!

MARGET

Yes.  No one knows what happened to him but if he were alive today, he would be the rightful heir to the throne.

Sira throws the scroll to the floor.

SIRA

(Shouts)

There is only one rightful heir to the throne and that is me!  Even now I must certainly fight for it.  Why did you show me this?

MARGET

I want only to show you the truth and to choose a different path than your father’s for this kingdom.

SIRA

It is my path to choose!  Mine and mine alone.  I know of nothing else.  This is my life.   I have been training for this moment since my birth!

Sira screams, kicking out at one of the portraits leaning against the wall.

SIRA

This is my throne! My kingdom!

Sira storms out of the room leaving Marget to glance upwards at the portrait of King and Queen Siris. She steps towards King Siris and places her hand gently on his portrait.

Fade Out.
